SOIL CRUST BREAKER
Breaks hardened soil crust in a controlled manner with different model options developed for broadcast-sown and row crops.
A powerful and controlled solution for soil crust
SİSSAN Soil Crust Breaker; was developed to break hard soil crust that forms on the field surface after sowing due to rainfall, irrigation and soil structure.
By loosening the hardened surface, it helps seedlings emerge more easily, improves surface aeration and promotes more uniform crop emergence. Available as a soil crust breaker for broadcast-sown crops and in 4-, 6- and 8-row soil crust breaker versions for row crops.

Soil-crust breaking solutions matched to the sowing pattern
Depending on the sowing pattern, the appropriate machine can be selected from a full-width model for broadcast-sown fields or 4-, 6- and 8-row models configured for row crops.
Soil Crust Breaker for Broadcast-Sown Crops
Works the entire surface across the working width in cereals and similar broadcast-sown fields, helping break the crust without leaving untreated strips.
4-Row Soil Crust Breaker
A compact option for 4-row crop layouts. Working units are positioned according to crop row spacing and engage the surface crust in a controlled manner.
6-Row Soil Crust Breaker
Adapted to field layouts created with 6-row planters. Provides balanced ground following and high work capacity over wider areas.
8-Row Soil Crust Breaker
Developed for 8-row crop layouts and large fields. Unit arrangement is prepared with row spacing and tractor track width taken into account.
Model comparison
| Model | Suitable sowing pattern | Working method | Configuration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Broadcast sowing | Cereals and broadcast-sown fields | Full-surface treatment across the working width | According to the required working width |
| 4-row version | 4-row crop layout | Row-aligned surface crust breaking | Adjusted to row spacing |
| 6-row version | 6-row crop layout | Row-aligned surface crust breaking | Adjusted to row spacing |
| 8-row version | 8-row crop layout | Row-aligned surface crust breaking | Adjusted to row spacing |
What is soil crust?
Heavy rainfall or irrigation after sowing can cause fine particles in the topsoil to bind together and form a hard surface known as soil crust.
Even after germination, young shoots may struggle to break through the hardened surface. This can result in uneven emergence, sparse stands and yield loss.
Supports crop emergence
Breaks hardened soil surfaces.
Helps germinated seeds emerge through the surface.
Improves aeration of the surface layer.
Promotes more uniform crop emergence.
Loosens the soil around the crown of emerged plants.

Effective surface tillage in the field
The breaker discs engage the hard soil crust and break it apart, providing the required shallow loosening without excessively disturbing the soil.
Independently operating units
The machine’s working units move independently, allowing each unit to follow surface contours and depressions separately.
The movement of one unit does not directly affect the others. This provides more consistent ground following and, when correctly adjusted, reduces the risk of crop damage.
Breaker discs with a 50 cm diameter
The machine is equipped with 50 cm breaker discs As the tractor moves forward, the rotating discs engage the hard surface in a controlled manner, cracking and breaking the soil crust.
The disc system is designed not for deep tillage, but to break the surface crust that obstructs crop emergence.
Suitable for different field crops
The Soil Crust Breaker can be used in different field crops where a hard surface crust may form after sowing.

Robust frame, long service life
Its robust frame, independent working units, suspended sandblasting, epoxy primer and acrylic topcoat are designed for demanding field conditions.
How is soil crust broken?
Set up the machine
The machine is attached to the tractor; working height and ground contact are adjusted to field conditions.
Discs engage the surface
As the tractor moves forward, the breaker discs rotate over the hardened soil surface and engage the crust in a controlled manner.
The hard layer is broken
Breaking the surface helps seedlings emerge and improves aeration of the upper soil layer.
Suspended sandblasting before painting
Metal components undergo suspended sandblasting before painting. This removes manufacturing residue and improves primer adhesion to the metal.
Acrylic paint over epoxy primer
After sandblasting, epoxy primer is applied to the metal surface. The acrylic topcoat gives the machine its SİSSAN corporate appearance and helps protect it from external effects.
Correct timing is important
Before operation, check soil moisture, crust hardness and the crop growth stage. On first use, test the machine over a short distance and adjust working speed and ground contact to field conditions.
Strong emergence, healthy growth
The SİSSAN Soil Crust Breaker can be manufactured with consideration for field size, crop type, operating conditions and tractor specifications
from 300 to 450 cm
